Old Gick Farm, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Parks

Parking Lot/Meeting Location: 4402 NY-50, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Old Gick Farm is part of the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Parks system, and owned by NYS DEC. The properties have been protected because they are part of the Saratoga Sandplains, an area of ancient sand dunes that are home to the federally endangered karner blue butterfly. The trails are narrow and sandy, which is quite a change from the usual rooty and rocky trails elsewhere. Old Gick Farm’s trails have some educational signage along the way, and a few interesting view points. The best time to see the karner blue butterfly is late May/early June when the park is abloom with blue and pink lupines.
